Adia's Vacation

So a few weeks ago Ethan was having a REALLY hard time at school. He was sent home early two different times in one week, he talked back to his teacher, and he stabbed a classmate in the arm with scissors for "making a scary face" at him. (They were safety scissors, so it didn't break the skin or anything, but still...whoa!) This is pretty out of character for Ethan, so we decided that something needed to be done. The Mallorys were here for the weekend, and as they live close to my mom I shipped Adia home with them to stay with my parents for the week. (Thank You! You guys are the best!)

So I had the week free to spend with Ethan, going to school and observing, going to meetings with the behaviorist, teacher, principal, etc. We had a lot of fun, just the two of us. We did lots of stuff that we don't normally do when Troy and Adia are home. I learned a lot, and things seem to be going better. And if nothing else there are only a few more weeks of school, so hopefully we can regroup and start fresh next year...


So now on to Adia. As always she had a great time with Grandma and Grandpa. (I'm not saying she gets spoiled or anything, but...) She worked hard for her grandpa, though she can't really tell me what she did, just that she worked hard and made lots of money. That part is true at least as evidenced by the pile of cash I pulled out of her suitcase. (I wonder if he would hire me...) She did some shopping, she helped her grandma, she spent time with Aunt Bobbi- who took her to her favorite store, gave her new earrings, had a tea party, (And who's "car drives MUCH faster than Grandma's car"...:) She didn't miss me one bit. (Really, she wouldn't even talk to me on the phone for the whole week, and even though I kept asking "didn't you miss me even a little?" the answer was always "nope, not at all!") She had so much fun, and hasn't stopped talking about it since she got home.
One thing that was pretty exciting that happened while she was at Grandma's house was that she turned five! Wow right! Some of you might remember that Adia just turned four in January, so the fact that she came home and was five came as a bit of a surprise to us, but oh well. Apparently she and her Papa decided that she needed a going away party on the last night she was there. They wrote invitations, then they needed a cake. And what is a party without presents, so suddenly Grandma and Papa were rushing around trying to find things to wrap up and give everyone something. And of course there had to be candles on the cake, and what do you sing when there are candles on a cake? Why, Happy Birthday of course! And who's name do you think they sang? You guessed it. Yup, sounds exactly like a birthday to me. So now Adia is five. She gets to eat gun (Something reserved for the five and over at our house) She is going to go to school, she gets to stay up fifteen minutes later at night, when people ask her how old she is she says she is five, if any of us try to correct her or mention that it was only a pretend birthday we get the famous "Adie stink eye" and get put right in our place. Yup, sounds like a significant birthday totally just happened. Not quite sure what that is going to mean for our future, but I guess time will tell... Happy Birthday Baby!
Another thing that happened was that one of her wonderful birthday gifts was a pair of scissors! Yay right?!? Well, my mom did mention it to me, but by the time we got back home I had forgotten... until I walked into her bedroom... there was a huge mess. We got to work cleaning it up. There were tiny bits of paper all over the floor, then under that we found little fuzzy hairs where she had given her stuffed unicorn a hair cut. Then we found longer strands of hair...That's right, she and Ethan decided to give her a haircut... It was a LOT of hair, but luckily she had a lot of hair to lose. It blends in pretty well with the longer parts, and you hardly even notice... until her hair is pulled back in a pony tail, and one whole side falls out because it is too short... Happy Birthday!
