I sing a lot to my kids. When we are having a normal conversation that seems to be lacking a little
somethin'
somethin' I start singing instead of talking. Every time I ask them to do something that I'm sure they aren't going to want to do, I sing them my request in hopes that the song makes the job a little more enjoyable. When they are grouchy I have this crazy little song involving phrases like "grouchy butt" and "
WHAAAAA-
mbulance". I have a fun little ditty called "wipe, flush, and wash, it's what the cool kids do", it's for teaching bathroom hygiene skills. When it's time to wake up I sing "in the leafy tree tops" in the most annoying
birdy voice I can come up with. What can I say, I love to sing. The problem is, I have no talent in that area AT. ALL. None. I am pretty much the worst singer on earth. It's alright because I know it, so I'm not like all those poor kids on American Idol who think they sound great, and end up
embarrassing themselves on national television. I'm fully aware, and I embrace it. Just because you don't
excel at something doesn't mean you should never do it, right? So I sing. Constantly. About everything. Crappy dinner, not picking noses, stinky feet, poor fashion choices, you name it, I can sing about it. I thought it was an endearing quality. It's not.
The other day the kids came home and in a sing-song voice I asked if they had a fabulous day. Adia (who'd had a bad day) answered "You know what would be fabulous Mom? If you didn't sing so much. THAT would be FABULOUS(said in sing-song, and with jazz hands)! In fact, it would CHANGE my LIFE!!!"
Yikes!
Teenage Drama!
Ouch!
Good thing I like her life the way it is, or that could be a really hard adjustment for me...:)
