Older Women
Ethan is in love with an older woman. There is a nice girl who hangs out at the skate park across the street from our house, and she has made an impact on my little guy. "She's a teenager, but she's nice!" is the way he describes her. (both my kids seem to think that it's a rarity to be both, not sure where that came from...) She sticks up for him when he needs it, and always shares her skateboard. She even taught him to do a trick (actually she taught him the basic act of making the skateboard move, but if you have spent any amount of time with Ethan you know even that is pretty tricky:) And she's super pretty. And if she ever needs anything, like a band-aid or a pop-cicle, or a drink, or a drawing of superman- because all teenaged girls need those things, you know. And I know it's serious because when I ask what her name is he blushes and says "mo-om" It's actually kinda sweet. I just hope it doesn't get too serious. You know how those older women can be... :)

Puddles
My kids are the luckiest. Their Grandpa owns a gravel pit. That might not sound like much, but for a kid it's the greatest thing EVER! Imagine giant mounds of sand to slide down. Huge hills of rocks to climb. Big pits to throw things in! It's a wild child's dream. They love to go there and get filthy and play for hours. Well, for the past month or so we have been getting major storms here. So last weekend we went up to the gravel pit, and there was one more element of fun to be had. PUDDLES! They were deep and gooey and perfect for splashing. And they did. For hours! Until they were sopping wet and had to be squeezed out before they could get back in the truck to go home. It was fantastic. Here are a few pictures of the fun.
There was one puddle that was right next to a large gravel pile so the kids jumped off the pile into the puddle. They kept doing it over and over and then they would giggle like crazy!
And of course Adia had to keep us on our toes with threatening to start a mud fight. Look at the twinkle in her eye and the smile on her face. That is the exact same twinkle and the exact same smile I get when I'm teasing, and the exact same twinkle and smile my dad gets. Funny how that works...
Adia wore her big purple irrigating boots and had so much fun stomping around in them. But when it was time to go home she took them off and dumped the water out, and I swear there was a gallon of muddy water in each one! :)

A Confession
Are you ready for this. It's pretty bad, so I hope you won't judge me too harshly. Please remember that we all make errors in judgement now and then. So here goes...
I watched Sister Wives last night...
I know, I'm ashamed of myself too. I just couldn't help it, I was sick yesterday, and I don't know if I was just hopped up on NyQuil (I really can't take that stuff, it makes me act like a drunken sailor, remind me next time) or if the boredom from spending the day on the couch had gotten to me, but I was flipping channels and stopped there. I realize I am a little late jumping on that band wagon, but I have heard a lot of hype and have friends who won't miss an episode, so I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. And then I got sucked in. I couldn't change the channel. There was a marathon going on, so I sat there in my jammies eating Popsicles and drinking breathe tea and watched two an a half episodes before I knew it, and I would have watched more except the marathon was over and they moved on to a different show (which was The Medium that I have another, quite different fascination with concerning her hair color, and the daughters mouth situation, and whether or not the son it gay, and if the dad is on drugs, but that's for another post...) It isn't that I find the lifestyle all that interesting, I have actually known quite a few Plygs in my day, and I don't have a huge opinion one way or another about that. And it isn't this particular family, or their particular situation, or that the story line is particularly gripping. No, there are two things that kept me hooked. One is that they all need some hair help. Really ALL of them. Serious changes. Serious. And second, I am dying, DYING!!! to do a group therapy on those guys. Like, really, I actually took notes! It would be SO FUN to get in a room alone to talk with this family, on so many different levels. If the show is still on the air when I get my license I am so calling them up! So what do you say Bobbi, (my lovely sister who is a fabulous beautician) shall we take a trip to Vegas and fix these people's problems? :)
Check it out on TLC - not sure the day or time, but this was a Sunday night at 11...
It's SO worth it, like a car wreck where you drive by saying "I hope there aren't any heads rolling down the highway", but still you can't help but turn and look for heads. It's like that...
No, I was not compensated by TLC, the Plygs, or any other affiliates. It's just me doing a great service for you.:)

maybe if this was what the toilets looked like she would change her mind...
Last night we were watching a show on TV and it had a jail scene in it. There was a toilet in the cell. Adia asked if you had to pee in front of everyone when you were in jail. I have never personally been to jail for any period of time - I know, some of you are probably SHOCKED:)- so I don't have first had knowledge on these kinds of things. Figuring that Uncle Levi is probably beyond sick of us calling him to ask stupid legal and criminal questions, and feeling that it is always best to discourage a desire to go to jail, I took a chance and said that it looked like you do in fact have to pee in public there. She said very seriously, "Well that settles it. I'm not going to be a thief or a killer then."
Well thank goodness! She was saved from a life of crime by fear of public urination. I feel like we really dodged a bullet there, as it seems that up until that point things could have gone either way!
